What is a paragraph?
After seeing the principles of writing, it is important to take into account the following elements when we are going to create a paragraph. These elements are noted throughout the text, and you can find their definitions here:
- Thesis Statement: A thesis statement is a
sentence that sums up the central point of your paper or essay.
- Topic Sentence: Every paragraph in your paper needs a topic sentence. The topic sentence expresses what the paragraph is about.
- Supporting Idea: Additional information
that explains, defines, or proves an idea or supports your topic sentence.
- Example: Statements that prove or give evidence of the reason for your paragraph ideas.
- Concluding Sentence: The concluding sentence is the last sentence in a paragraph. Its job is to summarize the main idea of the paragraph.
Finally, essays will also contain an Introduction, Development, and Conclusion as part of their structure. You can see them respectively pointed out in the example essay.
